CHELSEA FC SOCCER SCHOOL

Chelsea Football Club has called London, England home for over 100 years.  Their history is rich in tradition with player development serving as a major key to their storied success.  Chelsea FC is one of the most popular Clubs in the world on and off the field.  The team challenges each year for the English Premiership title and is a fixture in UEFA’s Champions League, which includes only the very best teams from Europe.  The Club continues to promote the “Chelsea Way” across the globe primarily through player education.   Chelsea FC will again be in Maryland to expose its world renowned brand of football through a week long camp in June.  Jeff Bookman of Chelsea FC UK Academy will again serve as Technical Director of the School.

Chelsea Soccer School Information:

  • June 21st – June 25th: 9AM-2PM.  Get application in early as summer 2009 camp was near capacity. (Note: There may be a change in time for Wed, June 23rd as USA kicks off at 10AM in World Cup action)

  • About the Camp’s Director: Jeff Bookman: Played for Arsenal and Chelsea Academies becoming Captain of England’s U18 Schoolboys team during that time.  Following his playing career, Jeff moved onto coaching and soon became UEFA “A” License coach in 1998.   Jeff has since gone onto achieve The FA Youth Coaches Award and has become a Coach Educator working for the English FA as a lead tutor for Level 1 & 2.  Jeff was one of a select group of advanced coaches who were asked to launch David Beckham’s Academy in London.  He remained there until he accepted a position with Chelsea FC as an Academy Head Coach.  Jeff now serves Chelsea FC  as Head of International Youth Player Development.  Jeff will again direct the Chelsea Soccer School in Harford County. 
  • Camp is open to players 6-18 years of age.  While all are welcomed, players should be prepared for a very challenging week of soccer instruction.  Campers will be motivated to increase their work rate and speed of play while being encouraged to express themselves through creative play on the field.  This week long soccer experience is designed to be different than most.  Certainly, players will have fun participating in this camp.  Learning in a competitive environment, however, is at the core and it’ll take a commitment from each camper to be ready for challenge each day. 
  • Cost = $300.  Ball and Camp Shirt Provided.
  • Campers need to prepare for full day of activity: guards, change of gear (especially socks), plenty of water, light snack, sunscreen, spikes, tennis or running shoes.  Concessions available with healthy choices on the menu. 
  • Format:
    •  Players will be assigned a team and coach.  Players will train with their assigned team for the first part of the day. 
    • Later, campers will be divided into groups to focus on positional training.  Forwards will be paired with forwards, middies with middies, defenders with defenders, keepers with keepers.  Campers will choose which position they’d like to focus on for that particular day.
    • A topic of the day will be covered by the Chelsea staff where campers will be given an in depth perspective on the Chelsea philosophy.  All players will assemble, relax and learn from the Directors of the Chelsea School and gain an understanding of what it takes to be a Chelsea player.  Campers will hear about the many challenges facing not only the youngest players within the Academy system, but also those of the very best on Chelsea’s first side including: Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Cech, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba.
    • Players will reassemble with their assigned team/coach and play formal matches to conclude each day.   
  • Some of the very best youth players/ teams in the State, Region and Country have already committed to participating in  the Chelsea Soccer School and will attend at Cedar Lane.  No matter your child’s age, they’ll be grouped with some of the very best at that particular age making for a quality level of training and an optimal environment for teaching/learning.
